Before your appointment
Before the appointment, you should inform the medical team about any medication you are taking. This is also a good opportunity to ask any questions.
At the appointment
Your consultant will locate the pain using palpitation. They will mark the area and apply the contact gel. A special device delivers the shockwaves for 2-3 minutes. At first, you may feel some discomfort, but it should lessen as the treatment continues.
After the appointment
After your appointment, you should sit and rest.

Your doctor will take a full medical history to determine if you have any absolute contraindications for the therapy.
After the treatment, you should sit and rest until you feel ready. You may experience reduced pain or no pain at all following the treatment. However, you may feel pain again, but it should only last a few days. You can go straight home and back to work following the treatment. If needed, you can take over-the-counter painkillers to manage the pain. You should avoid strenuous activities that stress the treated area for 48 hours.
Rest the area for 24 hours following treatment and avoid impact sports and stretches for 24-48 hours after. You can continue with gentle walks.
You can return to your normal activities following Shockwave Therapy.
You may feel some discomfort initially, but this should subside.
