Overview

What is Ear Treatment?

Ear treatment at The LivingCare Group involves comprehensive care for a range of ear conditions, helping to alleviate symptoms, manage hearing issues, and prevent infections. Our expert team, including consultants, nurses, and audiologists, provides specialised treatments for patients over the age of 5, ensuring high-quality, individualised care.

Conditions Treated with Ear Treatment

LivingCare’s ear treatment covers multiple conditions, including:

  • Glue ear, a common issue causing fluid build-up behind the eardrum
  • Earache, which can result from infection or other causes
  • Ear infections, such as otitis externa and otitis media
  • Wax removal for improved ear health and hearing
  • Hearing difficulties, including deafness and tinnitus management
  • Balance disorders, including vertigo, to help with stability and reduce dizziness
  • Foreign body removal to safely extract any objects lodged in the ear canal

How Ear Treatment Works

Our consultants use advanced equipment like otoscopes and microscopes to closely examine the ear canal and eardrum. In some cases, gentle suction is used to remove wax or debris safely. For patients with hearing concerns, an audiogram is conducted in a soundproof booth, allowing the consultant to assess hearing ability by testing responses to various sounds. This evaluation aids in creating a tailored treatment plan.

What to Expect During Your Ear Treatment

  • Before the Appointment: No special preparation is required, though we may request details of your current medications.
  • During the Appointment: Depending on the condition, the consultant may use suction or other tools to address ear issues. If undergoing a hearing test, you’ll sit in a soundproof booth and press a button in response to sounds.
  • After the Appointment: You may experience temporary discomfort if wax removal or cleaning was performed, but this should ease shortly after.

Risks and Complications of Ear Treatment

Ear treatment risks are minimal but may include:

  • Temporary discomfort following wax removal or ear examination
  • Slight risk of infection if there’s an open wound from an ear condition

How to Recover Following Ear Treatment

You can resume normal activities immediately after most ear treatments. If you feel slight discomfort, over-the-counter pain relief may help. For balance issues, avoid activities requiring intense focus, like driving, for a few hours.
